Perfect timing

Sometimes the internet stars align, and I see exactly the right thing at the right time.

This week has been rough - I haven't been sleeping well (read: at all), work has been draining me, it became winter again (seriously, it's got to stop), and I'm just generally feeling a bit beaten up. Happens to the best of us, right? It's one of those weeks where I cannot believe it's only Thursday, because it feels like about a month has passed since last weekend.

But then, this morning, this appeared in my inbox, thanks to Real Simple and my daily Today's Thought email:

And ain't that the truth? Excellent reminder, right when I needed it.

So tell me...
  • What's your best "just get through it" quote?
  • Where do you turn for inspiration during a rough week?
  • What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Words of Wisdom

So I've already fallen behind in the Blog Every Day in May challenge... shocking. In my defense, we had a jam-packed weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed being present with my family and friends rather than spending time on the computer writing blog posts. Some things are just more important! I spent a lot of the weekend taking care of C while he recovered from his wisdom-tooth-removal, visited with L2 on Saturday evening (pedicures, Target, and Chipotle - perfect!) for what is most likely our last visit before the baby comes, and went out to dinner with the in-laws last night. Didn't get much done around the house and the laundry has piled up, but thoroughly enjoyed our weekend nonetheless.

Anyway, I'm going to pick back up with Day 6, but first I wanted to go back to Day 4 - the prompt really spoke to me, and I'd still like to touch on it!

Day 4: Favorite quote (from a person, from a book, etc) and why you love it

I've always been a "quotes" person - I love song lyrics, book excerpts, sayings and phrases, etc. I have always been a word-lover, and sometimes things just strike a cord with me. I have a long list of "favorites"!

One of my ultimate favorites is this:

"Be kinder than necessary for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

This quote is attributed to several different people, and worded several different ways on the internet, but the gist of it is the same. I originally found this quote a few years ago when I was working in health care, and it really grabbed at my heart. It is the ultimate truth - every single person is fighting a battle. It may be harder or not as hard as another person's; it may be more important or less important, bigger or smaller. In the end, though, every battle is just that - a fight. A struggle to get by. And for that reason, it's important to remember to just be kind to people. You just never know what people are dealing with, or going through behind the scenes. Working in health care taught me so many important lessons about people and humanity and relationships, and I have found myself to be far more compassionate and mindful of other people's battles, thanks to that experience.

Perspective

I'm having one of those days. Sigh. It's the plain ol' truth.

I make it a point to unsubscribe from junk email lists as often as I can, and I've done a pretty good job at freeing up my inbox. One list that I've stayed on, however, is the "Daily Thought" list from Real Simple. There is just something about getting that simple image with a provoking saying on it that tends to ground me or give me just the pause I need in the morning. Here are a few thoughts I've saved for days like today:

Five for Friday

It has been a week for the books, folks. So glad it's finally Friday!

Haven't done one of these in a while, so...

Five for Friday

1. I am craving pizza in a serious way. It's all I can think about. May have to rectify that this weekend. What have you been craving?
Get in my belly.
2. Yesterday, a co-worker said something that really made me stop and think: "Where there is darkness, there is light." Things have not necessarily been peachy around the office lately, and it has been taking it's toll. That simple statement really got to me, and reminded me that things get better. So. Glass half-full, people!

3. Given my recent shin splints encounter, and the additional feelings of tightness in my legs and sore muscles and general differences I've been noticing in my body, I went and did a little research on my MapMyRun page, where I log all my runs. I found this:

MAYBE that's why I'm noticing a difference in how I feel?! Almost 50 miles more in May than April. Probably has something to do with it... #genius

4. Last night there was nothing on TV. Nothing, except for this new show on FOX:

Hosted by this guy:

No. Just no. I refuse. Apparently this show is a hit in the UK, but I am SO TIRED of stupid "reality" dating shows on television. I am one of those people who never got into the Bachelor or the Bachelorette, and I really never watch crap like this. It's taking overrrrrr. Make it stop.

5. Yesterday, another co-worker sent me this link, and that was pretty much the end of all productivity. I almost cannot handle the cute.

What are your plans for this weekend? Anything fun? Tomorrow, C & I are going to his cousin's baby shower, and then Sunday will be a long run with Suzann early in the morning, and something for Father's Day later on. Have a great Friday!
