Birthday Boy

Check out my guest post at My Freckled Life today - I'm giving some tips for bringing "baby meals" to new mamas!

Today is a very special day - it's my sweet husband's birthday!
Happy, happy birthday to the guy who has been making me
open-mouthed, scrunch-faced smile for years. I love you so much!
(also, Throwback Thursday Wednesday to a couple outtakes from our engagement photos... such babies we were.)

April Showers Bring... A Surprise!

This was our last weekend out of too many in a row that was booked with some big plans - which included back-to-back showers on Saturday. Why have just one, when you can have several?

I started out by hosting a French-themed brunch baby shower for Stephanie on Saturday morning. Aileen and Molly helped put together a lovely event that came together so simply and easily - I fully recommend having brunch for any shower, because the food is easy to make in advance, allows for a great combination of sweet and savory, and... who doesn't love mimosas??

Aileen made an adorable banner, and Molly brought beautiful bunches of hydrangeas to set out around the living room and kitchen. Along with a huge spread of food and a mimosa bar with various flavors of juice, we had the doors and windows open for some fresh air, and Aileen made delicious Macaron favors. It was perfect.

It was fun to see the girls from our book club, and also get a chance to meet some of Stephanie's older friends: she had several come from Northern Virginia that she has known since high school! So sweet. We spent the morning talking, eating, and oohing and awwing over adorable baby clothes and gifts. Tiny outfits are the best!

After the party, I had just enough time to get the house cleaned up and semi-back together and hang out with C for a few before heading up the road to Woodbridge: it was time for Brittany's bridal shower! Her mom put together a beautiful shower with friends and neighbors old and new, and we got another chance to celebrate Brittany's upcoming wedding.

Unfortunately, my phone was dead and I completely forgot that I had my real camera with me, so I didn't manage to get many pictures. Bummer! At least I was busy being "in the moment," right? Hard to believe that the next big event will be the wedding! It'll be here before we know it.

While that probably would have been enough excitement for one weekend, what's a little more? April showers bring... May flowers a big surprise! I've been saying for weeks now that I just needed to get through this weekend, and then C & I could have some down time and wait for our niece to be born. This was the last weekend with things we had to do, and then I intentionally left several weekends in a row of no plans, so that we could be available whenever the baby decided to come.

Well, she apparently took my advice to heart, because I woke up Sunday morning to some unexpected news: it was baby day! Baby Girl waited exactly as long as I wanted her to, and not one day more. She made her grand debut on Sunday night, and the whole family is just over the moon about it. She is such a precious little pumpkin! I can't wait to dress her in pink and sparkles and do every girly thing there is with her - she is already so loved! And I am thrilled to have several weekends coming up with no plans so that we can snuggle and adore her. Funny how that worked out!

Anniversary Time-Travel

For our anniversary, I gifted C with a night at a hotel in one of our favorite "quick getaway" towns: Williamsburg! A little time traveling is always a good adventure. I flew home from Detroit on Friday morning, and then had just enough time for a quick lunch and to throw some clean clothes in a new bag and grab my toothbrush before we were out the door again. I was afraid I would be too exhausted from the business trip to be much fun, but it turned out to be absolutely perfect. We had all of Friday evening and Saturday to spend being tourists, and then had all day on Sunday at home to get caught up on house and life things. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary, and I'm so glad I bit the bullet and booked the trip, because we'd been talking about it without committing for a while. Why the heck not!

Once C found out where we were going, he did a little research, and decided that we should finally do a Tavern Ghost Walk in Colonial Williamsburg. We checked into the hotel and then headed to the historic part of town for a walking tour by lantern, complete with real accounts of ghostly activity at some of the most well-known locations in the area.

It was goofy and fascinating... definitely got my gears grinding. I don't think I believe in ghosts, per say, but I do believe in souls hanging around. Does that make sense?

After our tour, we decided on dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the area: Food for Thought. Can't recommend it enough if you find yourself looking for a good meal! The owner was in the house on Friday night, and stopped by our table to wish us a happy anniversary - so sweet. We had a fabulous meal, just as we always do there, and completed the evening by popping open a bottle of champagne from Old House back in the room & toasting with our wedding flutes. Three years down, so many more to come!

Blurry and dark, but then again, we were on a ghost tour... so that's what you get.

Saturday was a quintessential fall day in Virginia - blue skies, sunshine, crisp breeze, colorful leaves. We made the most of the weather and wandered around Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding shops. There was a Farmers' Market going on, and a reenactment taking place in the center of town. Plenty to see and do! We grabbed sandwiches from The Cheese Shop and sat outside on the patio to enjoy them. A quick detour to the Yankee Candle shop left with me two new candles for the house (I had a coupon! Sorry not sorry) and, at the last minute, we decided to check out the Williamsburg Winery, which we've heard lots about but never been to. Time to try it!

We did a tasting to see what we liked (there was a white and a red that were very nice, and a spiced wine that I bought a bottle of and can't wait to turn into gluhwein!), and then decided to check out the Gabriel Archer Tavern for a glass of one of our favorites. Sitting at the bar, watching the hustle and bustle of the lunch crowd, was a lovely way to kill some time. Once we decided that we couldn't delay any further, we hopped in the car and headed home to our kitties. This was their first overnight alone since we got Toby! They did splendidly - the only casualty was a bag of corn tortillas that had been left on the counter. Apparently, Toby was in the mood for Mexican food... who could blame him?

I know it probably sounds silly to say that we needed to recharge our marriage a little bit - I know, we don't have kids yet, we work the same hours, blah blah blah... but really, we did need it. Work has been draining me lately, we've gotten into a meal rut, the chores are piling up around the house. It felt so nice to take some time away together, without anyone but the two of us, and go on an adventure with no agenda. We did whatever we want, when we wanted it, and just enjoyed some quality time together. A night away from home to focus on each other was just what we needed. The last three years have been so wonderful - I can't wait to see what year four brings us!

The show must go on!

Wow. Monday blew past me and somehow it's Tuesday already! It's gonna be that kind of week, I have a feeling...

We had very little planned this weekend, and it was exactly what we needed. We were busy, but it was mostly playing catch-up with things that have needed to be done for a while. I grocery-shopped at Wegmans, went to the gym (twice!), returned library books, and even got several loads of laundry done. Nothing too exciting, but it was so nice to have a list of errands to run and not be trying to beat the clock the whole time. Anyone know what I mean?

Anyway. A few months ago, when I heard that Jennifer Nettles was playing in Richmond this summer, I immediately convinced C that we needed to attend the concert. After I bought tickets, I found out that my friend, Aileen, and her husband also had tickets! So we knew we needed to make a plan to get together before the show.

The show was Friday, and Aileen and C planned a great tailgate spread while I travelled the Midwest. Just as we were getting everything packed up on Friday, it occurred to me to check that tailgating was allowed since none of us had ever been to this venue… and wouldn’t you know, it’s not! (Whomp, whomp.)

We were determined not to let that little cloud rain on our parade, though – the show must go on! Luckily, we found a great park less than 10 minutes from RIR, and we set up our own pre-show party! We enjoyed a lovely dinner, grilling next to a pond, in a practically deserted park. It was probably the nicest, most low-key “tailgate” ever – and I loved it! It was just what I needed after getting home at 2 AM that day. We hung out and talked and relaxed before heading to the show. It was perfect!

Once we got to the concert, we had no trouble finding seats together – the venue was probably only 2/3 full! I thought for sure that Jennifer Nettles would be a sell-out show, but apparently she does not have as many fans in the area as I expected. (Although Aileen pointed out that maybe she just doesn’t have the name recognition as a solo act that she does with Sugarland – which is probably true.)

J.N. is down in that white blur somewhere... sorry!

The concert was fantastic, and C and I both had a great time. The set list was a mix of new, solo songs, Sugarland songs, and a few 70’s covers. Plus, Jennifer was just as entertaining and animated while performing as I remembered from the last time we saw her. I couldn’t have been happier!

J.N. and Brandy Clark (her opener), doing their duet - loved it!

Really, it was great timing for a concert - a fun event to close out a super busy (traveling) work week, and a fun event to kick off a low-key weekend. Friday-night concerts are not usually my thing, but this one was just perfect. Thanks for a great show, Jennifer Nettles!

So tell me...
  • Do you tailgate for concerts? What would you have done if you already had your picnic packed and then found out you couldn't tailgate?
  • What's the last concert you went to?
  • What's fun for you this week?

Birthday shenanigans

Yesterday was my darling husband's 27th birthday - we're the same age again! To celebrate, we both took the day off, and spent almost the entire day completely work-free! (A minor miracle.) I surprised him with cupcakes and some other treats before breakfast - I firmly believe that everyone should have cake on their birthday.

I told C that we could spend our day of "hooky" doing anything he wanted to do - my only wish for the day was to spend it together and have fun! He decided that he wanted to go to a movie and go bowling... so off we went!

We joined lots of parents with kiddos for a matinee showing of How to Train Your Dragon 2 - and I'm not at all embarrassed to say that we loved it! The first HTTYD is one of our favorite animated movies, and we were excited to have a chance to see the second one at the theater. It was such a cute movie, and a treat to be at the actual theater instead of waiting for it to come to Redbox!

After the movie, we ventured to Splitsville, the bowling alley next door, for a couple of games. Once again, we were probably the only adults there without kids... but we didn't care!

We were thrilled to discover that they offer $2 bowling on Tuesdays - if you can't find us on a random Tuesday after this, you know where we'll be! We both like bowling, but rarely go... I don't know why. More bowling is in our future! This particular bowling alley is considered "luxury lanes," and is beautiful inside! Each set of lanes has a designated waiter or waitress to bring you anything you'd like to order from their amazing menu and / or bar, and there are flat screen TVs all over the place showing other sports and TV shows. It was so much fun!

Why yes... I do own my own bowling shoes!
Look at that form... :)

We made a quick pit stop to the mall so I could take advantage of Bath and Body Works's semi-annual sale (gimme all the candles!) and then we followed that with a beer at one of our favorite watering holes, Park Lane Tavern. Dinner last night was take-out from Castiglia's, a local Italian restaurant that we love, and we concluded the day by lounging on the couch, flipping back and forth between a movie on FX and the Nationals game. Just the way my sweet husband likes it! C said that this was one of his favorite birthdays in recent memory... I'd say the day was a success!

Happy birthday, my love!

Sneaking in a day-date

Little-known fact: C and I work in office buildings that are directly across the street from each other. We spend all-day-er'ry-day separated by the distance of a few football fields. People often tell me that this is great and ask if we eat lunch together every day or get coffee all the time... and the surprising answer is that no, we actually do not. And that's intentional! We commute together 2x a day, spend all evening together, and spend the weekends together. We have made a conscious decision to keep our work lives separate, because, for heaven's sakes, there is such a thing as too much time with your spouse. We need time to be individuals!

There is definitely a perk, though, to being able to run across the street for a phone charger when I forget mine, or demanding a coffee break when I'm having a particularly frustrating day. It doesn't happen very often, though, so that makes it a treat when it does occur.

Yesterday, though, we broke the mold and decided to have a real-live lunch date! The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and we decided to take advantage of that and walk over to Chop't for salads (I am in love with Chop't - I want one in my living room.) It was refreshing to get away from the office for a bit (very rare for me as I almost always bring my lunch) and spend a little QT with my hubby in the middle of the day. I'd forgotten how much fun that can be! It's also pretty neat to see all the sites that are laying right outside our office buildings - I forget that these are things people actually travel here to visit and see! No big deal, just walking past the Nation's Capitol building on our way to lunch...! :)

Working out, cooking, and lady-things

So the other day, on snow day #81234 this winter, I find myself standing in front of our pantry, loudly whining that we "have no snacks in this damn house." (This is accurate - we have no snacks, and for good reason: C & I have both determined that we are snackers, and if there are snacks in the house, we will eat all the snacks. Best solution: do not have snacks in house. Works great, except for when a girl just wants a dang bag of salt and vinegar potato chips. Rawr.) Anywho. Back to standing in front of the pantry. Just as I'm about to resort to eating butterscotch chips straight from the bag, my darling husband swoops in to save the day. Next thing I know, he's standing over the stove, making me my very own homemade queso. Next-next thing I know, I'm standing over the island, shoveling tortilla chips and queso into my mouth like it's the last thing I will ever eat. It was exactly what my snacky little heart needed! Problem solved! Hooray husband! Best husband ever!!

I would be remiss if I did not mention to you that, as he stood stirring melty cheese, C was demanding that I take pictures and saying, "there better be a blog post about this. I want it in writing that I am the best husband ever!!" Be careful what you wish for, sir. Mwahahaha.

And now I will turn the spotlight over to Mr. "Best Husband Ever" (he really is great, I'm not being snarky!), so that he can provide some comic relief in the form of answers to everyone's favorite link-up, the Boys Behind the Blog with Stephanie & Mal. I am sure you are all eagerly anticipating his witty banter and male insight. Without further adieu...

1. What's your lucky number?

I'm not overly superstitious, so I don't necessarily have a "lucky" number. I wore #12 for high school football and had some success wearing it. I also wore #6 for flag football and we won a few championships, so I guess that's good. I don't know. I'm a little ambivalent towards luck. On one hand, I could get suuuuper excited on June 6 (OMG 6/6 what a day to be alive!!!!), but there's always an inevitable letdown. Birthdays, holidays, or whatever-you-want-days are pretty arbitrary. You could tell me that Christmas moved to next week, and I'd be like, "Well, shit. Better hop on Amazon because Lindsay's going to be piiiiiiiiissed if I don't come up with something good for Marchmas*." That's kind of the way I feel about lucky numbers. We, as a species, apply intrinsic value to arbitrary items (abstract or concrete), then fret over it. On the other hand, Prince changed his name to a G-D symbol, so what the hell do I know?

*Lindsay would NOT be pissed, that was just a funny. Now if I didn't get her a card? MURDERDEATH.

Photographic proof - 6 is always his number

2. Do you have a lucky charm?

See above. I don't really believe in lucky charms. That being said, I do believe in MOMENTUM. You know what I'm talking about if you like sports or competitions. "DON'T YOU DARE MOVE FROM YOUR SEAT OR EAT ONE MORE CHIP OR TALK OR DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE DOING WE'RE ABOUT TO WIN AND YOU'LL SCREW UP OUR KARMA YOU KARMA-SCREWER-UPPER." Obviously, I don't believe that anything I'm doing will change the outcome of a game, but it's fun to think that it will (ooooooh my team depends on me so much! It's like I'm one of them! Throw it to me!). I'm sure that this stems from my general belief that repetition leads to success, so if my team is successful, I should repeat what I was doing when we won. Or I'm crazy.

(Editor's note: this is accurate. It is not so bad that he has to wear the same underwear for every game, but it does involve not washing jerseys if his team wins while he wears it... until a certain wife sneakily gets it in the washing machine because that shit is gross.)

3. Do you fill out a bracket for March Madness? Who do you want to win?

Yes, I did. My company is offering a $250 gift card for the winner (FREE MONEY, NEWBZ), so I took almost 5 whole minutes to fill out a bracket. Brackets are annoying. People that go on and on and on and on and on about their brackets are worse. You know the guy (or gal). Here are your canned answers for this year (please read this in Ben Stine's voice):
  • Yes, that upset also hurt my bracket. I can't believe it happened.
  • Another 12 seed beat a 5 seed. Wooooooow. That's 40 years in a row. I'm shocked.
  • I also think it's fun to hate Duke and Coach Kryzoooooooski.
  • I don't know if Rick Pitinio sold you your last car.
  • Well, they did have 5 starters suspended for accepting a stick of gum from their tutors, so that could be why they lost.
This blog is usually devoted to working out, cooking, and a whole bunch of lady-things, so I doubt most of those jokes hit home. Sorry about that. But I gotta get my rant on somewhere, and this is my soapbox.

(Editor's note: I did not fill out a bracket. My company offered a contest in which they very specifically offered no prize whatsoever, so what's the point? Also, I hope Boo-VA [I refuse to name it here] loses in the first round. So there. Go Hokies!)

4. March 10th is "Middle Name Pride Day." What's your middle name?

YES. This is THAT thing that I drop into conversations whenever I can. My middle name is Morgan (not that important). But I'm related to this guy (still not that important) who's related to THIS FREAKING GUY (very, very important). I have at least another 3.25 years to be BRO-ED out by this information before it's sad and I'll feel like the townie that still comes to partaaaaay on Friday nights.

5. Submit one question that would would like to see on a future The Boys Behind the Blog.

Wait. This is why we boys (MEN, damnit!) don't have blogs. We're reactors, not go-getters. If you allowed boys to ask the questions, you'd probably have 2 questions about cars, 5 how-to guides about deck building, 3 fantasy football football drafts, and 15 videos of people getting mauled by wild animals. We're uncivilized, ladies.

Love is a battlefield. Or something like that...

In honor of today being our "engage-iversary" (why is that a thing these days?? sheesh), I thought I'd share the story of the day C & I definitely almost did not get engaged. C originally wrote this for our wedding website, but I've never shared it here, and it's really too good not to post. It's a little long, but bear with me, because it's absolutely hilarious, and pretty much a spot-on representation of who we are - individually and together.

Join me, dear friends, as we travel back in time to December 2010, and revisit this potential disaster...

~~~
An engagement leads to thousands of questions. So many that, at times, I find myself slipping in a nupitally-induced coma. But before any of those questions can be asked, let alone answered, the question has to be popped.
Now, I’ve been trying to write this story for about two weeks now, but I couldn’t get past the first paragraph. Maybe because the story is awfully embarrassing—at best. Maybe because it’s tough to tell a story that hasn’t finished yet. Or maybe I’m just a bad storyteller. Either way, I’ve decided to skip paragraphs all together. So here’s a retro-diary of the proposal (dates and times are estimates):
December 18
I have the ring. Surprisingly enough, it isn’t that painful. I did some online research, familiarized myself with the four Cs, went to a jeweler, and bought it. But the hard part is figuring out the proposal.
I have ideas, even going so far as to talk to Ted Leonsis about surprising her at Caps practice, but nothing is panning out. After some time, I decide that the best place to propose is Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond. Lindsay loves it - even to the point that she wanted to have the wedding there.
I also have a crystal snowflake ornament to use as a prop for the ring. It’ll blend in perfectly with the statuettes at the Garden. I just have to find a way to distract Lindsay and set it up. With her attention span, it’ll be as simple as pointing one direction and scurrying off for a few minutes.
So it’s settled.
December 26
8 am
We wake up early. The Garden opens at 10 and I want to have plenty of time to pop the question, ogle some flowers, take some pictures, and get moving to Culpeper. The day after Christmas - or Boxing Day for all of our Canadian fans - is the perennial Cuccherini-family-gathering-extravaganza-reunion. Plus, we're going back to Lindsay's parents' for a night with close family friends. I figure it’ll be perfect. And then I look outside.
I had planned for a little snow, and really don’t think anything of it. But the weather decides to flirt between mildly obnoxious and potentially catastrophic. For those of you in the Northern Virginia area, between four to six inches. So I check the Garden’s website, and we’re a-go. Good thing we woke up early.
9:30 am
Let’s just say that when it comes to romance, I’m mildly transparent. Lindsay figures out where we’re going about half way down the highway - this feat alone is impressive because Lindsay knows where we’re going exactly 0.03 percent of the time.
When planning this excursion, I somehow failed to account for the dimensions of the crystal snowflake. Specifically, it’s shaped like a ninja star. I’ve wrapped it in tissue paper and tucked it into my jacket, but the ends are starting to dig in. Not. Comfortable.
The weather is getting worse the farther South we go. Four to six inches is getting dangerously close to eight to ten. But, like anyone in the Ninja Turtles/My Little Pony generation, I trust the information on the website. We pull up to the gates.
10 am
"Closed due to inclement weather."
10:01 am
s$n&svr#*tsok!3bbf*0)$!! (not our WEP key)
10:02 am
Time to call an audible. I don’t really know what to do. I was prepared for weather, not for a closing. I’m still set on proposing, I just don't know how, when, or where. At this point, my plan is to drive up and down the highway until I see a sign that says “Romance Here -->-->-->” in flashing neon lights. But of course, before any of that can happen, we need to stop for a bathroom break. "Burger King: Have Romance Your Way" - or something like that.
10:15 am
Back on the highway. No idea of what to do. Peyton-Manning-audible time.
10:50 am
We’re at our exit to get to my uncle’s house. Instead taking the correct exit, I decide to go East, because, so far, Wests haven’t been having the best luck. We’re going in the direction of Old Towne, Fredericksburg*. I mean, they put an “e” at the end of Towne, so it’s got to be lovey.
We’re driving, I’m scrupulously scanning every sidestreet, antique store, and café. I see battlefields. Irony.
*It doesn’t actually have the extra “e.” I made it up for effect.
10:55 am
Battlefield.
11 am
Battlefield.
11:05 am
F#ing battlefields.
11:10 am
Losing faith, we turn around. I figure I’ll give Olde Town another try. Now would also be a good time to mention that the tension in the car is borderline overwhelming. We’ve been wandering around Virginia’s innards for almost two hours with no end in sight. Lindsay is confused and annoyed. I’m tired and angry. The ornament is beginning to burrow. It's not going well.
11:20 am
We stumble upon a quaint little overlook. Well, it might be quaint; I'm not sure because it's blanketed with snow. Because Lindsay is cold-blooded, she likes to keep a tropical climate in the car. Add that fact to my growing aggravation, and I decide that I need a literal and figurative cool-down walk. I park and ask Lindsay to join me. I can't aptly describe her ensuing look, but it wavered somewhere between, "I wouldn't enjoy that" and, "If you ask me that again, I'm going to stab you in the eye with the windshield wiper." She begrudgingly gets out.
11:35 am
We start to walk toward the river and I'm out of ideas. I'd rather not risk pulling out a diamond ring in a couple inches of snow. Too many opportunities to fumble. Plus, Lindsay has absolutely no intentions of meandering anywhere that's unpaved.
Losing confidence, I direct us to a tiny, weathered cafe that sits on the riverbank. What's the worst that could happen? We walk up to the door to look at the menu. The restaurant's name: Tru Luv’s.
No. Freaking. Way. Maybe I'm just battered from the day's events, but this sure seems like sign from somewhere. We try the door. It's open - thank God.
Generally, Tru Luv’s seems like a nice place. Black carpets, black tables, white tablecloths. I mean, it must be alright, it has salad forks. The entire back wall is a window with a gorgeous view of the Rappahannock - and another battlefield.
(Editor's note: RIP Tru Luv's, now closed.......)
11:45 am
It takes me a minute to realize how alone we are; the snow must have scared off any would-be Tru Luv patrons. We sit in tense silence. I'm trying to think of a way to Houdini this ornament from my pocket without looking like a moron. Then I realize we've been in the restaurant for about five minutes and I still have my coat on. So, yeah, I look pretty dumb already.
11:50 am
There's no suave way to do anything with a winter jacket on. New strategy: dispatch Lindsay for a few minutes.
So Lindsay says, "Will you go out to the car and get my wallet for me?" Now's my chance.
I respond, "Why don't you just run out there real quick, it'll take you two minutes."
Jackpot. She's leaving - of course, by "leaving" I mean she stormed out muttering something under her breath about torture.
11:55 am
Time to set up the ornament. I get stage fright. At home, it seemed as simple as placing the stand into the base. At the restaurant, it seems more like a combination of Jenga, Musical Chairs, and Mousetrap. First, it's lopsided. Next, the waitress walks over and asks how I'm doing (I know, right? The nerve). Then, I can't get the ring out of my pocket because it's the box is buried in thirty pounds of tissue paper. Time is running out. She's walking in. I don't know what to do. If she sees it, she'll know what I'm doing, but it's too late to hide anything. What would Peyton do?
He'd obviously cover the whole contraption with a dinner napkin. So that's what I do. Bam. Done. Success.
Lindsay is standing by the table. She looks, umm, displeased.
Noon
"What is this?" she mutters.
"Oh, just something."
"What is this."
"Just open it."
"Yeah, you want to get married and stuff?"
"I guess."
Please pay special attention to those last two lines. As mentioned, romance isn't exactly my thing. Apparently communication isn't either.
Moving right along, I attempt to put the ring on her finger. Wrong hand. Can anything go right today?
12:05 through the rest of the day
We successfully get from the cafe to my uncle's, then to Lindsay's parents' house. Both of our extended families are thrilled for us.
So, in conclusion, the day was a success. Well, successful in the same way that the Titanic was the first ship to ever successfully use the SOS signal.
I can't make this stuff up
I can't really believe this, but it's already the 3rd Thursday of September (mind = blown) and therefore, it's time for this month's installment of the Boys Behind the Blog link-up! I emailed the questions to C this morning, and had my responses before too long... I'll be honest, I considered giving them a little teensy edit, but then I reconsidered. After all, I do claim that this blog is a representation of who I really am, and, in turn, it's who C really is, too - and his answers this month are about as real as he gets. So... enjoy! Hope you get a giggle out of them like I did :)
Hello, handsome! (also, sneak peek at our basement!)
1. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
An eagle. Because 'Murica. Also, talons. And flying. Can you imagine how freaking awesome that would be? I wouldn't have a lot of non-eagle friends, either. I'd be all like, "Come over to my house and watch the game." And my non-eagle boys would cry because my bitchin' nest would be hundreds of feet above theirs. They'd be pissy because they live in nest-apartments and I get the nest-penthouse.
(I was cracking up at my desk while I read this.... but it's probably completely true!)
2. What is your favorite meal?
Red meat.
(This one I don't believe... pretty sure it's lasagna or something. Though he does love a good steak...)
3. Do you use any forms of Social Media? What is your favorite?
Twitter and Facebook, yes, but I don't actively participate in either. I like Twitter because I can follow famous people and judge them on their grammar and nonsensical approach to us underlings. I also like sports. Twitter is great for that.
(I can vouch for the fact that, when it comes to social media, we are complete opposites. He reads Twitter all the time for sports-related things, but never tweets, and I'm pretty sure the last time he was on Facebook was to change his relationship status to 'married.' C'est la vie!)
4. Beer, wine, liquor, other, or none of the above?
Not wine. I like my beverages to be greater than 100 degrees or less than 40. Wine always settles somewhere in the middle. Liquor? Meh. Liquor has it's place, but it's for when I want to get drunk RIGHT NOW. Like, if I was 5 hours late to a rager, then I'd probably grab the biggest bottle of hooch (hahaha hooch) and chug it like the sickest bro at the brofest. Gotta play catch-up. Really though, it's beer for me. I like the fancy beers, but in moderation. I buy those "this shit's about to expire, mix it up BITCH" 6 packs from Wegmans. Those are sweet.
(Bud Light is pretty much water for C & his buddies - and he's a liar, because he drinks wine with me. Regularly. But it's true, beer is definitely his go-to.)
5. Complete the sentence: "Never have I ever..."
Nope. This is my wife's blog. A thousand nopes.
(Probably for the best.)
The boy behind this blog
One of my favorite bloggers, Mal @ Mal Smiles, recently started a new link-up with another great blogger, Stephanie @ Never the Same Spice Twice. The link-up is called "The Boys Behind the Blog," and it gives bloggers a chance to get their boys a little more involved in a post!
Each month, Mal and Stephanie post 5 easy questions for the boys to answer, and this time, I decided to see if C would play along. Luckily, he answered my questions without hesitation (he's so good like that!) - so I'm joining the fun!
Here we go...
Boys Behind The Blog
1. What celebrity would play you in a movie about your life? Jeremy Renner
(I think this is mostly because Jeremy Renner is a BAMF. Not because they look anything alike. I'm ok with it!)
2. What is your dream car? BMW 5 Series
(I did not actually know this answer. Hmmm...)
3. Do you have any tattoos? What, where, why? 3 - each shoulder blade and inside left arm / bicep, and because I'm sentimental and OK with it
(Obvi I knew this one. The two on his shoulder blades are family-related, & the one inside his arm is for April 16.)
4. Boxers or briefs? Boxer-briefs
5. List 3 random facts about yourself...
  • I'm related to Captain Morgan (yes, that one)
  • I've kissed the Blarney Stone
  • I sacked Russell Wilson (yes, that one) in high school
So there you have it! C's first round of answers to this fun link-up. We'll see if he plays along next month! :)
Memories are funny
 Picture 1.
August 2010
 Picture 2.
July 2013
Taken outside the very same restaurant, three years later.
Funny how time flies by so quickly, and how so much can change while so much stays the same.
I couldn't help but think about how different things are now - we're married, working, paying bills, living together, "adults"... At the same time, though, we're still those carefree kids in the top picture. I hope we always will be!
June's Wedding Whirlwind (aka where I've been!)
Someone recently informed me that I am a "bad blogger."
Someone could be right. (Thanks, Mom! ha.)
June truly started and then was over before I could really process it. It included Michelle's bachelorette wine-tasting, C being away for a week for a business trip with a massive set of storms that almost derailed his arrival back in DC, two back-to-back out-of-town weddings (and, therefore, wedding weekends), C's birthday, one trip to the vet, and another afternoon of wine-tasting. We had plans every single weekend, and by the time July 1 hit, we were exhausted. So, naturally, we invited all of our closest friends over to my in-laws' house for their annual 4th of July bash. Because why not?! And then immediately left for the beach for C's family's annual vacation. I got home from OBX on Monday night, and I'm pretty sure that I need a vacation from... the last 6 weeks. Time flies when you're having fun! :)
The highlight of June, was, obviously, having the opportunity to stand beside two of my closest girlfriends and watch them marry their soul mates. It was certainly a whirlwind (for Wedding Weekend #1, C was in Chicago then DC then Philly in the span of about 12 hours), but I wouldn't have traded the experience for the world. I am so honored to call these girls my friends. I couldn't imagine having gotten married without them standing next to me, and I am so beside myself with joy that they shared the same gift with me. We all had such a blast at both weddings, and each was so perfect in its own way. I couldn't have asked for a better day or experience for either of my girls, and I am so excited to have two more friends in the MARRIED CLUB! Yippeeee!
Wedding Weekend #2: Michelle & Joe
Loved having my parents included in all the festivities!
Reunited & it feels so good!
It's just occurred to me that there is not actually a picture of Joe (the groom) in that second set of pictures... he was there, I swear! Just failed to be captured by my iPhone, apparently :)
