Five for Friday: cats, cookies, and books, oh my!

Wow - this is definitely a TGIF kinda week! Some weeks fly by, but the ones that don't, man they draaaaaggggg. I am pumped that it's finally the end! We have a "no plans" weekend ahead of us, which should be excellent for starting Operation: De-Clutter, and there is a LOT of football to be watched. My ideal September weekend!

I've got to say, today didn't start out on the greatest foot - the train ride in was bumpier than usual, and I almost turned around to ask the kid behind me to turn up his blaring rap music because I couldn't QUITE make out every single word... but I refrained (seriously, one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't want to hear your music from your earbuds inside your ears. Turn it the heck down! #oldladystatus). But I've got hot coffee and a busy day ahead, so I'm looking forward to turning it around. Plus, C & I are going to see Dierks Bentley tonight with some of the book club girls and their husbands (hi Stephanie and Aileen!), and I'm super excited. He puts on a great show, from what I've heard!

So let's get to the good stuff, shall we? It's time for Five for Friday - hooray!

1 // I had a hankering to do some baking last night, and the ingredients in my pantry led me to a batch of Copycat DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies - aka possibly my favorite chocolate chip recipe, ever! These cookies are SO moist and chewy - just the way I like them. Brought half the batch to work this morning so that C & I wouldn't devour them all! Thank heavens for co-workers.

2 // Yesterday was a lovely (albeit hot & humid) day in DC, and I caught this pic of the flag outside my building at half-staff blowing in the wind. I always feel very on-edge working in the city on 9/11, but at the same time, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.  God bless America, land that I love...

3 // It's been a while since I've posted about what I'm reading... and honestly, that's because it hasn't been much. After flying through several emotionally-charged books in a row, I was a little burnt out, and couldn't find anything to really sink my teeth into. That changed when I finally opened my latest book club book this week (due Monday, whoops) - Room: A Novel by Emma Donohughe is wild (affiliate link, fyi!). I'm about 2/3 of the way through, and just eating it up. It's kind of hard to read, because it's written from the POV of a very sheltered five-year-old, but other than that, it's fascinating. Anyone else read it??

4 // Our newest addition has officially received a name. Everyone, meet Toby. Toby, meet everyone. He is keeping us on our toes, that's for sure!

5 // And speaking of cats... Mac the Monster is having a tough time adjusting. Not that we thought it would be super simple, but this week has been a bit trying. I am doing my best to make sure my original cat-baby knows he hasn't been replaced and we still love him. It'll get better, but for now, he is not really enjoying this Big Brother roll. Not sure I blame him, though - the kitten is taking a toll on all of us! Whew.

So tell me...
  • Big plans for the weekend?
  • What's the last book you read?
  • What's one thing you are looking forward to in the next few days?
Have a great day!

I loved Room. It was so sad but so powerful! I just finished a book by Diane Chamberlain called The Escape Artist. It's not my favorite book by her (That's The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes), but it was still pretty good. :)
